It is very difficult to read the memorial on this stone wall with scroll, surmounted by rustic cross with ivy.

William Thomas Gravenor was the son of Mary Ann and William Gravenor.

He was baptized on 6 February 1825 at Shoreditch St Leonard, Middlesex


He married Jane Margaret Townly at Shoreditch, London, on the 21 March 1848

 WANTED, good GENERAL SERVANT, no! under twenty; two in family.—Apply, between two and six, Mrs. Gravenor, 51, St. Marys-terrace, Hastings.


In the 1881 census his occupation is described as “Income From Rents Houses” (and advertisements in HSLO from 1875 seem to bear this out.)


Also present is his wife Jane and a Maid, Mary Ann Mills.

Death from Apoplexy. Mr. Gravenor, of St. Johns-road, St. Leonards, died suddenly of apoplexy on Sunday morning. H< had complained of sickness. Mr. Gravenor was 57 years of age, and formerly resided at St. Marys-terrace, Hastings. It was not considered necessary to hold an inquest.
