George Augustus Frederick Elphinstone-Dalrymple was born on 6 May 1826, in Scotland, the 15th child of Sir Robert Dalrymple-Horn-Elphinstone of Horn and Westhall, 1st Baronet. And Graeme Hepburn.  He died on 22 January 1876 at age 49, without issue at St. Leonards, Sussex, England

George Elphinstone Dalrymple explorer and public servant passed this way in 1864, leading the first group of Europeans to enter the Herbert River Valley, en route from Port Hinchinbrook (Cardwell) to Valley of Lagoons, in his steps came settlement. Erected 1964
